Description
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) built on the sequence of the endogenous tetrapeptide tuftsin. This form carries an N-terminal acetyl group and a C-terminal amide, modifications commonly used in peptide research.
Supplied as 30 mg of lyophilised powder in a 3 mL vial.
Research background
Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences by extending tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), a fragment of immunoglobulin G, with the tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro to make it more resistant to breakdown. Published studies, mostly in rodents and cell lines, examine gene expression in GABAergic and inflammation-related pathways.
Most published research uses unmodified Selank; the N-acetylated, C-terminally amidated form supplied here has been studied far less.
